Schwartz is best when paired with someone who has an ear for a good tune. He can be a brilliant lyricist, but he's never been anything other than a middling composer. The show--the stars actually--rise above mediocre song material and the characters of the stage book shine through. Thankfully.
Skip the cd. Go see it.

Awesome album. Every time I listen to it it's like I'm watching the musical again. The music does a great job of painting a visual of what's happening on stage. This is one of the few albums I can listen to in its entirety over and over again. And it still gets me emotional!

My daughters and I love this CD. The music reminds us of when we saw the play at ASU Gammage in July of 2009. We are a huge fan of this musical and we even liked it more than Phantom (which we saw in November). I would recommend this CD to everyone who loves musicals.
