That it's maddeningly ubiquitous? A stitch-up of various themes shoplifted from the Italian operatic repertoire? A critic-proof crowd pleaser that's probably being staged somewhere in the world as you read this? A megahit that will likely outlive Titanic in the pop-culture pantheon, Phantom has largely redefined--for better or worse--the manner in which modern musicals are conceived, staged, and marketed. Its influence has reached far beyond the traditional confines of London and Broadway. A favorite example: an abridged version that was the centerpiece of Los Angeles's longest-running transvestite revue, replete with 14-inch chandeliers and a man-playing-a-woman-playing-a-man in the title role. --Jerry McCulley | | | Product Details: | | | Audio CD Release Date:

The first but not the bestJun 27, 2010 Even though graced by the original cast, there is a muffled quality to the recording. Perhaps a later recording provides the crispness and clarity the score deserves.
Phantom is greatJun 18, 2010 I bought the full CD of Phantom of the Opera, original cast, and it is great. Have been enjoying it frequently. Two full CD's of all of the songs. Price was right!
Wonderful quality and music!Jun 07, 2010 I was very pleased with this product! It arrived several days before the "estimated shipping date". The CDs and case looked brand new, even though it was used. I have really enjoyed finally finding a less-expensive copy to add to my music library! I have listened to this thing over and over, and find enjoyment each time! Everything about the purchase went smoothly. I would DEFINITELY work with this seller again!

A Great Box Set!May 31, 2010 I purchased this box set because I wanted to hear the original performers...I was not disappointed! The music is beautiful and clear and the performers are superb.
The packaging is nice and includes a libretto (a little booklet with all the lyrics and dialogue).
The only fault with this set is that Sarah Brightman's voice is hard to make out at times so you have to adjust the volume a bit.
What I like about this original cast recording compared to the soundtrack of the movie (which I also purchased) is that this set only contains the songs and not much dialogue.
All in all, I think this is a great addition for fans of musicals, or for anyone who wants to be swept away by the heavenly voice of Michael Crawford for an hour or two!

Phantom is the best!May 28, 2010 This is the best of the best. It is two CD's of the actual play, exactly as it is performed. I've seen the play 8 times, and before I ever saw it for the first time, I bought the cassette version and listened to it several times to familiarize myself the best I could before I saw the play. It helped a lot for me, but don't worry if you don't get the chance to do the same thing. After years of listening to the music and watching the play, I never get tired of it. I'm going again this July in Atlanta. I've seen many different main players in the various times I've seen it but never Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman, who are the original cast and who perform on this CD. Don't pass up the opportunity to own this - it's one of a kind.
