Morale-boosting sounds on the home front and "over there" were one of the Allies' most potent weapons. WWII gave birth to many of the 1940s' most popular artists and songs, as well as many of the most important independent record labels. Songs That Got Us Through WWII is the first of a two-volume series collecting the hits that kept the home fires burning and brought a little bit of America to the G.I.s overseas. Compiled and developed by singer/songwriter/music historian Billy Vera, Vol. 1 features many of the era's biggest artists, including The Andrews Sisters, Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, The Mills Brothers, The Ink Spots, Harry James, and many more. | | | Product Details: | | | Audio CD Release Date:

My Dad & Mom's MusicMar 29, 2010 I grew up listening to this timeless music.
My Mom & Dad danced and lived during WW11.
I know a lot of the songs and movies.
This era was/ is unforgettable.
I sent this to my Mom. She lives in a nursing home. She says she remembers "the days".
Enjoy for yourself.
I'm a "baby boomer" after the war... but my parents gave me "their "music, for my memories.
Classic & UpliftingNov 25, 2009 This time period in music was truly beautiful and original. I love the glow in these haunting voices and the flow to these tales they sing of. It's very listenable but this album functions great as background music too. Trendy folks are going to want to avoid it like the plague, but they are just the boogie woogie bugle boy from company B as far as I'm concerned, anyways. Have a happy Holiday season.
