From the summery skank of the title track to the surging, breathless single "Jungle Drum" to the yearning, spine-tingling "Big Jumps", "Me And Armini" is a truly sublime album. Torrini sings the song at the end credits for "The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers", and she wrote two #1 hits for Kylie Minogue. This is a beautiful albumOct 06, 2009 It took me a few listens before I fell under the spell of Emiliana Torrini's second major album 'Me and armini'. There is nothing earth-shaking about the lyrics, nor are the tunes particularly memorable in a classic way, like the Beatles songs, but the sum of the whole is beautiful and comforting. This isn't music for staring at the wallpaper or grocery shopping, I don't mean that, but the songs are quieter than 'Love in the Time of Science' and emphasize more acoustic guitar and strings.
There are more ballads on this album than the previous one and with her beautiful mid-range voice Emiliana Torrini comes close to the enchanting effect she made in 'Gollum's Song' at the end of the film 'The Two Towers'. I wouldn't go so far as to say that 'Me and armini' is for the masses but I think the appeal of Torrini's artistic sensibilitie will grow with the public.
I'd still like to hear her sing some of the great old songs and ballads as well as her own compositions, which border on the tedious, were it not for her inimitable way with words and tonal inflection. It's time for her to branch out now. She's not Björk and I hope she doesn't try to imitate that great artist in her extremely outré musical path.
Highly recommended for those quiet days when you've had enough. And it's also a good album for the IPod at the gym. Several of the songs have a good beat, including a good reggae number. My favorite song is the last, 'Bleeder'.
It's a very quiet and beautiful ballad, Torrini at her very best.

She's not like BjorkJun 28, 2009 I've heard her first cd and didn't try to judge her until I became comfortable with her music. I hate it when an artist is compared to a well established artist like Bjork. They both are from Iceland but Emilana has more of a Jazz singer rhytmn to her music than Bjork with her experimental sense of humor. I love the songs Birds, Jungle Drum, Me and Armini, and Heard it All Before they have a reggae feel to it, Jungle Drum sounds a little like Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking" but she makes up a better comeback with her boogie down Jazz Scat after the Jungle Drum chrous.
Another consistent release from the gifted icelanderJun 24, 2009 A cool girl from a cool country , Emiliana Torrini emerged at the beginning of the decade with releases that flirt with folk , pop and electronica . The fact that her cv includes contributions in both the Lord Of The Rings soundtrack and Kylie Minogue's hit list ( ! ) only proves that she's talented on many levels . " Me And Armini " is another fine piece of work for her catalogue . " Big Jumps " is as catchy as they go , " Ha Ha " is heartfelt and depressing , " Jungle Drum " is fun and sexy while " Gun " with it's severe dark texture implies there is a side of her we only have yet caught a glimpse of . Although maybe not as eccentric as her fellow co-patriots Bjork and Sigur Ros , Torrini is still one of the most interesting female artists around , one to keep a close eye on for years to follow .
I love this albumJun 11, 2009 Well, this is just to add one more 5-star review to this truly wonderful record. Other reviewers have said it all. Too bad most people only care for "top 40" music and will never listen to such beauty!
