 Great Greatest Hits AlbumMar 03, 2010
Have you ever bought someone's "greatest hits" album and wondered why your favorites aren't on it? Well, not so with this album. This is a terrific greatest hits album - a fun listen for fans and a great intro to Joni Mitchell for folks who don't know her work. In fact, it's this album which got me into Mitchell - and my husband and I now own most of her albums. You can't go wrong with this purchase.

Wow! I can't believe how much I love this album. It is pleasing and satisfying from beginning to end. I find Joni's songs and singing style as comfortable as hanging out with a really good friend. I'd highly recommend the album to a newbie to her work and to a long time fan. Excellent record.

As a boomer, Joni Mitchell has always held a fond place in my heart, and listening to this CD reminds me of why. From her folk songs like Woodstock, The Circle Game, and Both Sides Now, to her early pop songs like Chelsea Morning, Big Yellow Taxi, and You Turn Me On I'm a Radio, to the melancholy songs from Blue, to the campy pop songs like Raised on Robbery and Help Me, this CD is a smorgasbord of the types of music that has endeared Joni Mitchell to listeners over the years. There is not a weak track on the disc. Highly recommended.

This item popped up as a "recommended" item based upon my selection of other Joni Mitchell items. Oddly, I never purchse compilations (unless forced to such as in the case of Mark Knopfler offerings) - but such is the sterling power of this iconic creatrix, I could not stop myself from at least crusing the offerings of this album, taking a musing cruise through many subtle memories attached to Mitchell's oevre. I would suggest that anyone interested in experiencing Ms. Mitchell (never pretend that you will understand this artist in her work!) must commit themselves to eschewing "best of"s and always purchasing full albums. Her clangers are as important as her on-target offerings. However, just as Kenny G is the gently waving waft of pseudo-jazz in the foyer that can drag a novice through the door to endless delights (think Anthony Braxton, Miles Davis, Albert Manglesdorf, Eric Dolphy et. al), so, too, the Hits album serves to hold the door temptingly ajar for the first sweet taste that hooks.
