Playing in seedy Bowery bar to a small group of fellow struggling musicians, the band struck a chord of disharmony that rocked the foundation of the '70s music scene. Tracing the history of the band, from its unlikely origins through its star-crossed career, bitter demise and the sad fates of Joey and Dee Dee, End of the Century is a vibrant, candid document of one of the most influential groups in the history of rock. | | | Product Details: | | | Actors:

Gabba Gabba CrapMay 17, 2010 First off I love the Ramones. I have all of their albums and several books on them. I was disappointed by this DVD though. Most of the people on the DVD are not Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, Tommy, Marky, Richie or C.J! Whats the point? I want to hear from them. Not Lame-o old school friend of Joey's or What's his face from some New York band. While some people like the great Joe Strummer or Lars Fredrickson (Rancid) add to the story some others interviewed leave much to be desired. I just felt they could cut out some of the fat and have more interviews with the Ramones. Not to mention for a band with hardly any swearing in their songs there is alot of "F" words in this DVD. I can ignore a few but the amount and the usage was just lame. I don't want to sound like I hate this DVD, I don't. I was just hoping for a kinda "West Way to the World" the Clash documentary kind of approach. I tried to like this DVD but it became harder and harder to sit through. The Ramones 5 stars! This DVD 2 stars for not enough Ramones.

No Frills - Much Like the BandFeb 19, 2010 The story is told directly by the band and those around them through a compilation of interview snippets (mostly done specifically for this) with some limited performance and related footage intertwined. It's a fascinating story that is well organized and presented. I do NOT think it's one of the greatest rockumentaries ever made or even all that well shot, but for Ramones fans, it's very interesting and certainly captures the essence of the band's members.
The documentary is displayed in a pillar-boxed non-anamorphic 16:9 format that appears to have largely been shot at 30fps. If you're waiting for a Blu-ray release of this down the road, I don't see it happening.
A Must for any Ramones FanOct 23, 2009 This movie is an absolute must own for any Ramones fan or fan of punk rock. It has tons of great concert footage and the most interviews and in depth look at the band I've ever found.
surprising and saddeningJul 06, 2009 Intelligent, insightful, sincere and balanced--just about everything the Ramones weren't--this documentary took me by complete and pleasant surprise. The footage and photos evoke a nostalgia for a time that, if you lived through it, was gritty to say the least. The interviews are insightful and, unlike most documentaries, relevant to what was being discussed. (It was disheartening, however, to count the number of DOAs among the interviewees: DeeDee, Joey, Johnny, Joe Strummer, Linda Stein, etc.)
Some reviewers have said that the band comes off sort of whiny, as does Legs O'Neill. But think about it: is it whiny when the complaint is legitimate? The Pistols and other bands heaped the term "punk" on a band that had nothing to do with that scene musically. They didn't spike their hair, they were apolitical for the most part, and they wanted to be close to the mainstream. Their success wasn't all that great but, come on, as the movie clearly shows, they could have broken up at any time and still laugh all the way to the bank.
One thing did bother me--not about the film but about the band--that at the Rock and Roll induction ceremonies which bookend the film, only Tommy had the class to thank and include Joey in his acceptance speech. DeeDee's patting himself on the back, while typical, depressed me. Still, this is a film worth having for any fan of the Ramones, rock and roll, and good filmmaking.
THE RAMONES STORY TOLD BY THEM!!!Jun 08, 2009 I have to say this is one of if not the best Documentaries ever made, I have watched it soo many times, it's great to hear their story from their own point of view! R.I.P Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, your music will live on forever!
