5A Classic album everyone should own.Apr 27, 2010
Alice in Chains was the best bands to come out of the 90's. Dirt is such an iconic album. Every Rock/Metal fan should own this album. No other explanation needed.

I purchased Alice in Chains " Dirt " album because it was one of my favorite albums of all times. I had to have it on Vinyl. The sound is great, I knew the songs by heart, and if you are an A.I.C. fan you cannot go wrong with " Dirt ".

5Alice in Chains - DirtFeb 21, 2010
Alice in Chains' second album Dirt arrived just in time for the Halloween season in 1992, and took over the grunge scene with its spooky hard rocking style. The album is almost unbelievably advanced past the band's debut album Facelift, every song taking on its own texturally rich identity. In terms of technical skill, every member of the band is in prime form despite their drug addictions which are reflected heavily in the album's lyrical themes. The late and great Layne Staley spits "what the hell am I/thousand eyes a fly/lucky then I'd be/if one day deceased" on one of the album's underhand knockouts Sickman. We can hear both the anger and anguish associated with personal breakdowns and drug abuse. The consistency of the album alone makes it one of the finest albums that grunge had to offer, with a killer lineup of singles, the hammering Them Bones, Vietnam reminiscent Rooster, and possibly the greatest grunge single ever, Would?. But the highlights don't stop there; the album also has a slew of brooding, slow moving, moody masterpieces (Dirt, Rain When I Die, Down In A Hole), as well as many other sleeper highlights (God Smack is the origin of the name of AiC knockoffs Godsmack, to exemplify the album's influence). Although Alice in Chains' best work may be scattered throughout their albums and EPs, Dirt is easily their most representative and possibly most accomplished work, a scary, fun, and emotional masterpiece of its genre.

5Essential - One of the Greatest Albums EVERAug 26, 2009
From the opening song "Them Bones" to the finally, "Would", it's pure ear candy. An essential album for all who appreciate either Grunge, Metal, AIC, or those rare standout musical works that just wear better and better over time. I wish the same could be said for today's music, but at least it'll be soon forgotten. It's also why I no longer listen to the radio.

The music industry did little in the way of promoting this group compared to the way they push today's trash down the throats of the masses, so don't be surprised if you come to believe you must've been sleeping under a rock when this music was first released.
I also recommend "Unplugged", "Facelift", and "Jar of Flies" to quadruple your pleasure. You'll thank me later.

4Grunge to the coreAug 21, 2009
I used to have this album. I didn't quite find it as heavy as "Facelift" was, but it still had the muddy grunge sound to it. I came to this conclusion after hearing "Them Bones", and from there it just kept at an even keel. Some of the highlights are: "Down In The Hole", "Junkhead", "Would" and "Angry Chair". The song "Rooster" is a person tribute to Jerry Cantrell's father who was a Vietnam Vet, and apparently had the nickname "Rooster". I want to acknowledge this first before I say it was the worst song on this album. I don't really go for depressing songs, and this one is depressing. I feel that this one put Alice In Chains on the map as their next release "A Jar Full Of Flies" would go to number 1. With "Dirt" it sounds like what Corrosion Of Conformity's 1994 album would sound like, and it has Sabbath riffs reeking all over it, so you get the best of both worlds.
