5My First Jimi Hendrix CDJul 29, 2010
I was at my local record store looking for something new to buy and couldn't find anything that I really wanted. I noticed this display of remastered Jimi Hendrix cds and I knew "Are You Experienced" was his first one so I picked it up. I was pretty familiar with Purple Haze, Foxey Lady and Wind Cries Mary. I have to say those tracks are certainly great but there are so many other good songs on this cd. A must have for any fan of classic rock. I'm sorry I didn't buy this a lot sooner! The remastered sound is great as well.

5One Of The Top Groundbreaking & Game-Changing Albums Of The Classic Rock Era!!Jul 17, 2010
I don't think that anyone who knows anything about modern music could deny that
the year 1967 was one of the most groundbreaking, paradigm-shifting, game-changing
years in the history of classic rock, soul/funk, pop...YOU NAME IT BABY!! (-:
There was THE DOORS self-titled debut, CREAM's "Disreali Gears", THE BEATLES'
"Sgt. Pepper", Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved A Man", Sly & The Family Stone's
"A Whole Other Thing", James Brown's "Cold Sweat" and "There Was A Time".....
I could go on and on! But right up there in the top 5 with all those ground-breakers
was the Jimi Hendrix Experience's dynamite debut "ARE YOU EXPERIENCED" !!---WOW!! (-:
When I first heard this and the other 3 releases from Jimi's classic 1967-70 period,
I was a child in the early 70's and my father and uncles worshipped at their altar!
Me and my brothers can recant with amusement today all the times that my father and
my uncle Frank (both now deceased) would get all zooted-up and tipsy on the weekends
or during the holidays and relive (for the zillionth time!) their trek up the eastcoast,
driving a raggedy '65 Bonneville which broke down just outside Trenton, NJ, then they
hitchhiked it from there, smoking that good "Red Bud" (weed) & dropping "window pane" (acid)
as well as partaking in all the "free love" of that time with other young college aged kids
along the way to their destination...1969's epic WOODSTOCK!!
They saw it all go down and experienced it all (the good & bad) upclose and personal!
They never forgot the impression that Jimi Hendrix, Santana, The Who,
and Sly & The Family Stone had left on them!---And so we felt like we had
lived it too in a way! (-:

But I first heard this album, with an adult appreciation & understanding, at age 16 in 1980.
"ARE YOU EXPERIENCED" must've burst on the scene like a meteorite in 1967!
The Hendrix Experience's whole aesthetic, their sound, their bombast, was something
that was completely way out there, yet had a ring of familiarity to it as well....
in other words, they were way ahead of their time, yet very much of that time!
Much like alot of the aforementioned bands and acts above were.
We will never see the likes of the impact of the musical, artistic and cultural
shifts that the world experienced from 1966-1980 again!---EVER!!
Just like "AXIS: Bold As Love", "Electric Ladyland" or "Band Of Gypys",
there are no junk tracks!----Just put it on, take the journey and feel THE EXPERIENCE!! (-:
"Hey Joe", "Purple Haze", "Foxey Lady", "Third Stone", & on and on and on!!

5I Didn't Understand...May 02, 2010
I didn't understand the genius of Jimi Hendrix until I understood the Blues. And I didn't understand the intensity of his music until I raised an ADHD child and lived with a manic-depressive. His music is a creative force.

I was a little dissapointed that this CD was NOT the origional.
However, the playing is fantastic!

1you guys are nuts!!!!!!!!!!!Mar 24, 2010
why oh why would anyone buy this version?

Get the expanded version with all the B-sides and other tracks recorded at the same sessions.
Red House, Highway Chile, 51st Anniversay, Stone Free & Can You See Me? are the best tracks from those sessions anyways.

WB/Reprise thought nobody wanted to hear a blues song?????

No wonder they took out our trade center buildings....we don't have the brains to trade right
Cheers
